Gen 01 || Chapter 01.002
Dear Diary,
I can’t believe how quickly life can change. Just yesterday was my high school graduation, which I didn’t actually attend. I wasn’t exactly the most popular kid in school, with my nerdy obsession with books about magic and ghosts. A lot of the other kids liked to pick on me, calling me weird and creepy. I won’t be sorry if I never see or hear from any of them again.
My interests in magic and ghosts weren’t the only things that made me unpopular in school. I was also a foster kid. I grew up being bounced around in various foster homes, never staying in one home for more than half a life stage. And as soon as I aged up into a young adult, I was booted from my last foster home. Now here I was, homeless with only §1,800 in my pocket, looking through the racks at ThrifTea, trying to earn a bit of money styling outfits.
Honestly, I’ve always been a rather stylish individual. My fellow classmates could pick on me for my interests and for being a foster kid, but nobody could say a word about the clothes I wore. I’d actually made my §1,800 from selling ThrifTea outfits on Trendi. I wondered, though, just how much money could I make from selling them? I decided to test my luck, listing a few outfits for just under §37k each. If my luck begins to turn, I just might be able to buy a nice house!
But it seems my luck is better than I was expecting, because my phone rang just as I finished listing the last outfit. The caller ID was for a law firm. Curious, and a little apprehensive, I answered the call.
“Hello?”
“Hello, this is Barry Bagley from Bagley & Buckley LLP. May I speak to Althea Mythcraft, please?”
“This is she.”
“Hello, Ms. Mythcraft. I’m calling to inform you that you’ve inherited a plot of land in Glimmerbrook. I must warn you, however, that this land is purportedly haunted. Apparently several people died there, and a fire burned down the house that once stood there. But, if you accept the inheritance, all building permits will be filed and you’ll be allowed to build whatever you like there.”
I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! A plot of land that was supposedly haunted, in a town that was famously home to spellcasters? And I had inherited it? Wow! My luck really was turning around, wasn’t it? And if I could just sell one of the outfits I’d listed on Trendi for the price I was asking for, I could even afford to build a cute little house on the land! “Yeah, I’ll take it!”
“Great! I’ll send you directions to the lot!”
And so I made my way to my new home, saying goodbye to Copperdale. Hopefully I’d never have to go back ever again! I arrived in Glimmerbrook after some time, and found myself on a little plot that I could see so much potential in.
This was quite nice! And I even had a sleeping bag and a knitting bag, which I had bought on the way to Glimmerbrook. After all, I would need something to do, and somewhere to sleep!
I knew that Glimmerbrook was said to have a portal to the Magic Realm somewhere on the river. At least that’s what my books always told me. And according to my books, ordinary human sims could become spellcasters if they used the portal to visit the Sages.
So I began jogging along the river, searching for the mysterious portal. And it didn’t take too long for me to find it. I was so excited that my legs were shaking as I made my way towards it. The light inside swirled around, changing colors as it moved.
And that’s where I am now! I’m so excited! It’s hard to believe that I might actually get the chance to be a spellcaster! I’ve always dreamed of it! And if my plot of land really is haunted, maybe I’ll even get the chance to become a Paranormal Investigator too!
Welp! Gonna go ahead and go through this portal now! Ciao for now!
– Althea
